While Reader Klept would insist every word is factual, this site is best described as a creative archive — a written record of stories born around a table through dice, laughter, and Yak’s concoctions.
Yes, it’s fiction. But it also isn’t. These things did happen — in our heads, in our voices, in that strange shared space where imagination makes its own kind of truth. Every event, location, and individual (including Klept himself) exists somewhere between memory and myth, and any resemblance to real people, places, or events is both entirely coincidental and entirely inevitable.
A couple of years ago, I joined a Dungeons & Dragons group that played together on a regular basis. When I eventually took on the role of Dungeon Master, I was excited to bring to life the world of Elandaru – a place I had been quietly building in my head (and on various scraps of paper) for several years.
Reader Klept was one of the first NPCs I introduced to the group. He was only meant to be there for a session or two – just long enough to serve a minor narrative purpose before the group, like most adventuring parties eventually do, got bored and killed him.
They didn’t.
Instead, they liked him. They kept asking about him. Interacting with him. Dragging him into conversations. And so, he stayed. And he grew. And somehow, many, many sessions later, he is still here, ink-stained, mildly exasperated, and very much alive – sharing the story of that very group, and the world in which their adventure takes place.
Barbara Dongswallower, on the other hand, began life as nothing more than a name tucked into a player character’s backstory as a throwaway reference. But as these things often go, she took root. And bloomed. And now she is a beloved (and deeply scandalous) personality in her own right.
This site is a home for those stories. A place for the lore of Elandaru to unfold, the chronicles of that ever-chaotic party to be recorded, and perhaps for new tales to take root in the pages still to come.
Everything you find here is drawn from our game sessions. Klept’s accounts are pieced together from in-game notes, post-session recaps, player doodles, and the occasional frantically scribbled moment. While Klept has chronicled the events as accurately as possible, time has been stretched for narrative purposes. Sometimes the events of a single gameplay session are told through multiple chapters, or a single chapter might cover multiple gameplay sessions.
There will be inconsistencies. Some plot threads will vanish entirely, because the players ignored them, or we forgot to take notes, or we’d had too many of Yak’s concoctions. Rules might bend, or break, or be ignored completely. Continuity may wander off for a nap. We’re not too fussed.
What matters most is the storytelling—the joy, the chaos, the friendships, and the sheer delight of building something together.
New characters, locations, and bits of lore will appear on these pages as the campaign unfolds, usually without fanfare, so keep poking around. I’ll do my best not to spoil anything for the players, just in case (I think, hope, suspect they occasionally check this site).
So if something doesn’t make perfect sense, just assume Klept got distracted. Or that the dice had opinions. Or that Yak’s concoction for that particular session was considerably more potent than usual.
If it’s something you really think needs to be addressed, leave Klept a message. Either way, welcome.
